The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
